President Duda awarded medals to Warsaw Uprising veterans Six Warsaw Uprising veterans were decorated by Polish President Andrzej Duda at a ceremony at the Warsaw Uprising Museum. The recipients included Maj. Julian Kulski, code name “Goliat”, a soldier of the Żniwiarz Group.

 

Julian Kulski was presented with the Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta for his distinguished services to Poland’s independence and cultivating Polish national traditions.

“The anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising is important to me as Polish President and, more importantly, as a citizen, a scout and a person who was raised to respect the history and myth of the Warsaw Uprising and the heroism of its combatants. I can say that my readiness to serve the homeland was largely shaped by those events and attitude of young Poles,” Andrzej Duda said.

Mr. President also decorated sister Lucja (Lucyna) Reszczyńska, a nurse at a hospital in Kopernika Street in Warsaw; Ewa Jeglińska, code name “Ewa”, a messenger at the Baszta regiment; Hanna Szeremeta-Węgrzecka, code name “Czarna Zośka”, a nurse at the Konrad Group; Jadwiga Wiśniewska, code name “Sroka”, a nurse and messenger at the Home Army Women’s Military Service (WSK). In addition, Halina Wołłowicz-Hołownia, code name “Rena”, a messenger and nurse at the Baszta regiment, was decorated with the first class Order of the Cross of Independence.

The award ceremony was held on 31 July 2017, on the eve of the 73rd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.
