New York commemorated the Uprising

A mural commemorating heroes of the Warsaw Uprising was unveiled in Greenpoint, New York City. It features Julian Kulski, author of the book entitled “Legacy of the White Eagle”.

Approximately 11 metres wide and 3 metres high, the mural was painted on a wall of the Polish National Home (known as “Warsaw”), Brooklyn. The focal point of the mural painted by Rafał Pisarczyk is the Mermaid of Warsaw with a sword raised above her head next to three participants of the Warsaw Uprising, Julian Kulski, Witold Modelski and Ryszard Kossobudzki, sitting on a captured tank. The mural also features quotes from Warsaw Uprising participants.

According to the artist, the mural is a tribute to everyone who fought for Poland and died defending Poles’ honour. It is also a simple means of reaching the American public, who knows much about the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising but, unfortunately, knows little about the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.

The project was initiated by Grzegorz Fryc, President of the Pangea Network, an association of young Polish professionals in the US. He received support from the Polish Army Veterans’ Association (PAVA) in America District 2 in New York and the Polish National Home.
